Dr. Bilal Afzal is Consultant Diabetologist in Mukhtar A. Sheikh Hospital. His major clinical focus includes overweight and obese type 2 diabetes, metabolic syndrome and the increasing prevalence of type 1 diabetes and type 2 Diabetes in young adults in Pakistan over the last five years. He also has an interest in prediabetes intervention and management of diabetes, and the use of insulin analogues and other newer agents to reduce the risk of hypoglycaemia.
Dr. Bilal Afzal is involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in the field of diabetes, and gives presentations and lectures to primary care physicians working in remote areas. He has also been working towards improving awareness of diabetes amid increasing prevalence in rural areas of Pakistan.
